In Loving Memory of Waffles Brown

July 10, 2001 - June 21, 2011

It’s hard to put into words just how much Waffles meant to me, and how terribly I will miss him. From the moment he was born, I just knew he was meant to be my baby boy. As a puppy, he was the pick of the litter. Chubby, furry, and loving, he was the one who always wanted to be cuddled the most. In adulthood, he was a one hundred pound beautiful golden retriever. When we took him out, people always remarked on how he was the most beautiful dog they’d ever seen. And he truly was. His most favorite thing to do was play tennis ball with his Daddy (my own father).  My dad would come home from work and immediately Waffles would grab one of the many tennis balls lying around and follow him around until he would go outside and play. Many days, they would both be out until after dark. Though he and my dad shared a friendship that is stronger than most that humans have with other humans, he was my baby. Having him since he was born, I felt like a mother to him. He was scared of the dark, and like a child would come and bury his face in my neck. When I came out of my room in the mornings, he would start thumping his tail in excitement to see me. Crazy as it sounds, I would lie down next to him and talk, and he would respond by grunting. We had our own language.
There’s no way I could ever adequately describe the relationship Waffles and I had. There will never be another dog like him, and I can never forget him. Though his untimely death tore my heart and soul apart, I find solace in knowing that he had as good of a life as a dog can have, and died peacefully. I also know that I will see him again, and I cannot wait for that day to come.
I will always love him. He’ll always be my baby.
