Calvin came to his new home from the animal shelter on June 6, 1996. He was born around April. I rescued Calvin just in time, because the first time I took him to the vet a few days after I got him, the vet tech said the shelter had just euthanized a bunch of cats & kittens because they were sick. I doubt his cute little litter mates made it out.
He was named Calvin after the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. He grew up to be a sweet, cuddly, fluffy, big beautiful cat. In 1999, he got a kitten sister named Chloe from the animal shelter. He didn't like her at first, but after a while they grew to be best buddies. They would wrestle, chase each other through the house, and groom each other. Calvin loved to be petted and cuddled. If I laid on the bed with him and scratched his fur but then stopped scratching him, he would paw at my hand and try to pull my hand back over to him so I would start petting him again! He also figured out how to push open a partly closed door so he could get in the room and be with me.
He loved to lay around on the screened porch and watch birds, eat grass in the yard, and sit in a window to look outside. He also liked drinking water from the bathtub faucet. Sometimes he went in the tub and just stood there and waited for somebody to come and turn the water on for him. Everybody loved his puffy fur and big white puffy feet, which I liked to call Bugs Bunny feet! He and Chloe used to greet me at the door every day when I got home. He lived for 15 years and developed thyroid problems and later cancer. There is a big sad empty feeling in the house now that he is gone. I will always miss and love him, but hope to see him in heaven one day.
RIP little buddy Calvin 1996 - 2011
P.S. Now Chloe has adopted a new habit of playing in the tub. But she doesn't drink water from the faucet like you did, she just chases the water and sips puddles on the bottom of the tub! She sleeps on my bed every night now, because she never liked to stay in the garage alone even when you were alive. I guess she won't be sleeping in the garage anymore!
